Near the main entrance of most schools you will find a wall plaque. This plaque commemorates the building of the school and or major additions/renovations to the building that occurred over time. On these plaques are names of individuals who played roles in these projects, such as School Board members, School Superintendent, Architect, and Contractors.
Many of these plaques, in Illinois, display the name of Architect Joseph Legat. This is because, over the years, Joe Legat has provided high quality services that have earned the trust of School Boards and School Superintendents Statewide. This trust was earned through Joe Legat's commitment to building strong partnerships based on quality, professionalism, planning, and meeting the needs of his clients within the resources available. He also concentrates on students and teachers requirements for the latest environments for students to learn in and teachers to teach in.

A handshake agreement with Joe is as good as gold. When I first interviewed him in search of an architect for the school district we met at a breakfast dinner for coffee one early morning. We discussed the needs of the district and the services he could provide. As the discussion moved along, we worked out details, timelines, and a very fair fee agreement for both parties on a coffee-stained paper placemat. The handshake then took place. That was the beginning of a long and gratifying relationship. We left the logistic details to the lawyers who used the "placemat" as the core of the contract.

I have worked closely with architect Joseph Legat in the design and supervision of both new construction and renovations of four schools and a District Administrative Centre in New Lenox, Illinois. I have found Joe to be a collaborative and visionary professional who always had the best interests of his clients at stake. He was always available for school board meetings and worked diligently to develop close relationships with all stakeholders in the construction process from start to finish.

He took personal interest in our construction project insuring each was completed in time, according to the specifications, and within budget. He was always available to me should the need arise and his word was his bond. Trust and transparency are the hallmarks of Mr. Legat's character.

My experience with Architect Joe Legat began when I served as Assistant Superintendent of Staff Operations in Schaumburg Township Elementary School District 54. District 54 is the largest elementary school district in Illinois with 27 schools. Joe Legat was involved with a series of Life/Safety projects over several years that led to the renovation and efficiency of operations of many of these schools. All of these projects were completed on a very tight timeline spanning only "three "summer months. Given the magnitude of the work (where whole classrooms were completely renovated from walls to floors to ceiling as well as lighting and HVAC upgrades) the challenge was completing all this work in time for school to begin in the fall. The above work was carried on for five summers in a row! Joe Legat's design skills, detailed planning, ability to coordinate, and communicate with all parties involved were critical in completing these ambitious multimillion dollar projects on time and within budget.
